365 Ways #321–Something smells fishy
#321--When buying fish at the grocery store, you should always be using a seafood guide to see what's safe and sustainable (i.e. http://www.foodandwaterwatch.org/fish/seafood/guide/). But with that important choice made, it can often be difficult to tell how old the seafood is. The date on the package usually refers to when the store received the fish--not necessarily when it was caught. So unless you're buying fish directly from the person who caught it, you have to use your nose. Fish is fresh when it smells like the ocean (assuming, of course, that you're buying ocean caught fish). But if it smells like fish, I suggest you fire up the grill and make it a steak night instead.
