365 Ways #341–Can’t spell obesity without S-I-T
#341--I have some news for you. Are you sitting down? If so, stand up. Besides the increased pressure on your back and the postural repercussions, sitting has actually been shown to decrease both the amount and the functioning of lipase--an enzyme which stimulates the body to use fat. When lipase is inhibited, the fat which should be absorbed by muscles instead circulates in the blood stream until it helps inflate your spare tire or adds more junk to your trunk. Heart disease and other ailments related to obesity are 2-3 times higher in populations that sit a lot. So it's not just your figure that suffers when sitting. Your health can't stand it either.
